Protect Yourself From Legal Headaches: 2 Property Management Licenses Explained

Here are the primary licensing requirements for property management.

Do you need a license for the property management business? The short answer is yes; in fact, you actually need two.

The first one you need is a real estate license. The owner or primary contact needs a Texas real estate license to run a property management business. Second, the broker needs to be licensed. For commissions to come into the company, the person handling the transactions also needs a license.

Everyone else in the company doesn’t need to be licensed. So the people running things to and from properties, social media managers, and other workers don’t need any sort of license.

You can run your own property management business unlicensed, but it isn’t recommended. You’d set yourself up for major liability issues, so going with an established business is the best bet.
